Kirk I use this AP along with a NetGear dual band WNDR3700 Router, a Netgear GS116NA Giga Switch switch and a Netgear WNHDE111 5 GHz AP. I have ethernet cables from each AP back to the switch. When you open the box you'll find the build quality of this AP to be very impressive. You'll get a CD that has an excellent manual which describes how to set up the unit. You can also go to the Netgear website and download the manual to see what you will be getting into. Not so bad but you should really have some idea of wireless settings since you will be able to select and adjust them with the WNDAP350. The manual is very helpful and if you just want to set up WPA2-PSK using a PassPhrase [network key] on both bands you'll have no problems as you will leave almost all settings on their default. When the device arrives you don't immediately put in on your network. First you'll hook up the WNDAP350 to a laptop or desktop computer via an ethernet cable [provided in the box]. This removes the computer from the network and allows it to communicate with the WNDAP350. Why, well the WNDAP350 comes with a default IP of 192.168.0.237 so you set your adapter to have a static IP of 192.168.0.210. [subnet 255.255.255.0]. All of this is covered in the manual. You then go to your browser and type in [...] and this opens the excellent interface for the WNDAP350. Then you set the IP of the WNDAP350 to what you want for your network, say 196.168.1.10, and click apply. You can then set the computer adapter you were using back to "obtain an IP address automatically" and hook it back into your network. Now you are all set to put the WNDAP350 in your network and you can complete all settings from any network computer using the browser interface built into the WNDAP350. If you make a mistake in configuring the unit there is a reset button so you can start the process over. If this made sense to you or you're willing to learn then you can't beat this AP as its one of the best around. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Excellent for small to medium business By Craig Con: Does not yet support IPv6 Pro: The UI is easy to understand and navigate, easy to configure, internal wireless antennas are very powerful, no issues with connection Linux, Apple, Windows, and Android devices. This is not for the new to medium user; when configuring you must know what all the acronyms mean and what effect any changes you make, have on the access point. This is a business class device and the screens expect that you know what you are doing. If you want a high-end access point, this is the one to get; if you want a home network access point, consider something else. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Average Product - It may work great or it may be terrible depending on your setup. By Chris M Overall this product is good for the price. However, I can't say that it's the right product for everyone, because it is not a solid product. This is going to be a long and detailed post, but I want to be fair and provide some real information that someone looking for a medium end WAP with business features for a home or a small business can use to make an informed decision. My biggest complaint is that the wireless is a bit flaky. Connections randomly become slow and in some cases become unusable and have to be reestablished. When it is working as it should, the performance is good for a few devices doing data intensive work. e.g. A laptop streaming a move, Xbox 360 gaming and a laptop and an iPod on facebook and general web browsing. Too much of this and you will notice. I can stream 2 movies over wireless, 3 sometimes and forget 4. The second major issue is Netgear seems to provide very poor support in fixing problems with these small business devices. It has taken a year for them to provide an update that fixes 2 issues and

Great Reception By Paul Lamendola Jr. I wanted to get a dedicated wireless access point and router because my experience with wireless routers has been that they are all terrible and nobody should buy them and that every manufacturer of them should be ashamed of themselves for pushing such horrible cheap crap. Anyway, I got this along with some other router that I can't recall because I'm not at home and it works well. Reception is strong and consistent. It can be picked up for quite a distance, but the usable distance is dependent on the transmit power on the other device connecting to it, but for the range you do get, it's very stable. Features are plentiful and you get a lot of professional level options and tools such as secure shell login built in for the price. The menus can be a bit cryptic at times, but only on some parts, and nothing some experimentation wouldn't figure out, but I'm not going to knock the overall score because of something I didn't know. It's the customer's responsibility to learn, and there were no actual usability faults or bugs or anything like that. See all 3 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Design and Execution By Philip A. Jones My latest configuration uses two EOC-1650's, one permanently mounted at the masthead and configured as a client router and another below the saloon floor and configured as an access point. The masthead uses the supplied 5 db external omni and the access point uses the internal antenna. Rather than using the 24 volt injectors that came with the devices, I injected 12 volts by cutting off the power supply tips (they are 5.5 mm OD, 2.1 mm ID, type M) and wiring them to the ship's power, which is sufficient for runs of about 50 feet. Since the access point is close to the bilge I put it in a waterproof container along with the two injectors. An ethernet cable runs from the container inside the mast to the client router. Configuring the masthead device as a client router (firmware 1.2.4) rather than as a client bridge avoids a problem in which the remote network assigns your PC an IP address in a subnet different than the masthead device's address and you lose the ability to log in to the EOC-1650. (Instead the client router's DHCP assigns your PC an address in its own subnet and the client router gets its WAN address from the remote network's DHCP. With the client router connected to the marina's access point, we have wifi throughout the cabin with excellent signal strength. Without the EOC-1650's I'd be sitting in the cockpit squinting in the sunlight and swatting mosquitoes while I tried to connect to a weak signal. So, I'm pleased with these devices. ************************* After using the EOC1650 for a year from New England thru the Bahamas, here's an update. I used a 15db omni antenna connected via a 3 foot pigtail and a 75 foot cat5 ethernet cable. The EOC1650 was at the masthead on a halyard for weeks at a time in all weather and on the cockpit rail the rest of the time. It still works. Pros: Reliable performance under demanding conditions. I connected to distant access points when others in the anchorages had no luck. The built in power over ethernet is handy since it lets the water sensitive parts like the power cube live below deck. No water damage to unit despite rain and spray. New firmware version 1.2.0 has new functionality and seems stable. Cons: Connector for external antenna spun off its nut and broke because I suspended the EOC1650 from its antenna rather than attaching it to the mast. Unit is weatherproof rather than waterproof. A wave splash when it is at the rail would kill it. ************* Original Review May-09 Just installed the EOC1650 as a bridge and found it to be excellent. (I've got extensive experience installing routers, access points and bridges so what I found easy might be more challenging if you're not familiar with wireless networking.) First the Pros: Small package (about the size of a flashlight) with lots of mounting options for indoor or outdoor use. (I hauled it to the masthead of a sailboat to use when in a marina or at anchor.) Comes with parts the description implies are addons: 5dbi rubber duckie omni antenna and two suction cups for mounting on a window or the like. Power supply for Poe is small and fits sideways on a powerstrip so it takes up ony 1 plug. Web interface was easy to understand and has extensive configuration settings, like preferred BSID which allows selecting an access point by MAC when there are several with the same SSID. Stable -- at least with several hours of use -- and does a good job of clinging to the marina's network in Baltimore's inner harbor, which has Port Networks stepping on all the channels with strong signals. Only a few cons: User guide is behind the most recent firmware, so some settings are not explained. No built in help in the user interface, so the user guide is the only source of info. Automatice date and time setting doesn't seem to work, requiring that you enter a date and time if you want the log timestamp to

Most helpful customer reviews 14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. The ultimate mini-router that won't work By Kevin McMurtrie 3.0.6-29 Firmware Update I thought this update fixed problems with NAT rules. It did fix the bug where inbound NAT rules were damaged on restart, but now newly created outbound NAT rules don't work! Packets go from LAN to WAN but the responses are lost without even triggering dropped packet logging. Netgear online support doesn't seem to have the technical knowledge to investigate. Stay away from this router. You will never get it working. Earlier reviews follow. ----------------- This router has suffered numerous firmware bugs that prevent it from working securely and reliably. Tech support's answer is always to hard-reset and reprogram manually. Reprogramming using a backup file only restores whatever corruption you're trying to get rid of. This is a BUSINESS class router! Manually reprogramming takes at least an hour. After fixing the bug that gave admin privileges to Telnet without a password, I've picked up a bug where an important NAT rule vanishes on each reboot. I've been told by Netgear Support to install the beta firmware update (and then manually reprogram AGIAN) but they never sent it to me and they stopped responding to the trouble ticket. Netgear has a forum that they recommend for fast support but it's staffed by illiterates. I can't tell what they're trying to say. There's still no VPN client software for 64 bit systems. ----------------- Firmware 3.0.5-25 may grant administrative access to everybody on the LAN through Telnet. If this happens, you can't set a password and you can't turn the feature off. The ONLY solution is to reset to factory defaults and re-configure from scratch. If Amazon let me, I'd drop to no stars until this is fixed. ----------------- This little box is awesome. This is for anyone who has multiple internet connections, multiple static IP addresses, multiple home servers, or any other problem that a "home router" can't handle. Gigabit ports and the custom NAT rules allow a home server, a desktop computer, and a NAS can talk to each other at raw Gigabit speed. The best feature isn't obvious until you're half way through the initial configuration - it's actually easy to set up. The web GUI is clear, full of help, responsive, and it tells you about potential conflicts. The owner's guide is all about how to create your network. It doesn't waste your time with Windows screenshots. Ping, traceroute, DNS, and packet sniffing tools are built-in for troubleshooting mistakes without yanking wires. A test of NAT showed about 52Mbps, which isn't too bad for a small box. The only bug I've seen so far is that routing might not work immediately after setting up a custom NAT rule. 16 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Great Device -- Lots of bugs By SunGuru It is true that this device is very easy to setup and works well. However be aware that the latest firmware is riddled with bugs, especially in the area of remote syslog and vpn administration. If your buying this unit to do site to site vpn you might consider looking at the SonicWall TZ 190 too. Although this unit has a CLI, it is very limited, you will need to do most of your setup programming via the http interface. This device replaced a Cisco Pix 506 --- in side by side tests the throughput on the Netgear blew the Cisco out of the water. Also, if your trying to connect several airport extreme base stations together via Gigabit Ethernet don't bother trying to do it with the Cisco it has some incompatibility problem. But I'm pleased to inform you that the Netgear works perfectly as the switch to tie all the airport extremes together to make one big network. If you need to open ports for service pass through you will need to do all your own setup of the services, since by default the Netgear provides you with none. The manual appears to be of good size but leaves a lot to be desired when trying

Amazon.com Product Description If you need an affordable, versatile way to make lightning fast local network connections, the Linksys EG005W Gigabit 5-Port Workgroup Switch is the answer. Get blistering speeds of up to 2000 Mbps with this wired switch, which allows heavy users of multimedia, graphics, video, and other bandwidth-hungry applications to share and transfer large files with ease. Plus, thanks to the technology built into the EG005W you can mix clients that support slower, 100 Mbps speeds with those that run at full gigabit speeds -- without any speed loss. Simply put, the EG005W is the perfect solution for your desktop gigabit and 10/100 networking needs. The EG005W features LED lights that keep you updated on the status and performance of the switch. View larger. Five auto-sensing ports allow you to use crossover or regular ethernet cables interchangeably. View larger. With workstations that support Gigabit Ethernet networking, you'll see amazing speed increases over 10/100 Mbps networks. Connect your clients to the full-duplex ports and see your data traffic efficiency improve several times over. Dedicated bandwidth of up to 2000 Mbps can be attained with the EG005W, making it perfect for graphics, multimedia, and other applications that have to move large files across the network quickly. A full array of LED indicators are provided on the front of the EG005W, giving you detailed information about the status and performance of the switch: Power: The power LED lights up when the switch is powered on. Link/Act: The Link/Act LED blinks when data is being sent or received through the port. When the LED is off, there is no data being transferred through the port. Speed: The speed LED blinks when that port is transmitting at 1000 Mbps. If the LED is not lit, the port is transmitting at 10 or 100 Mbps. FDX: If the FDX (Full Duplex/Collision) LED is lit up continuously, the connection made through the corresponding port is running in full duplex mode. If the LED is blinking, the port is experiencing data collisions. Infrequent collisions are normal. If this LED is blinking often, there may be a problem with your connection. Amazing versatility is built into the EG005W. Simply install this switch in place of your current workgroup hub or switch, and you can network your high-requirement workstations with Gigabit Ethernet speeds, while continuing to service other clients at their current speeds. Or build your network from the ground up, and choose the link speeds that are right for each of the users on your network. The EG005W is designed to integrate easily with your existing network and you can connect your existing 10/100 Ethernet network to your gigabit server backbone without any additional equipment. All ports on the EG005W are auto-negotiating, and they have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection. This means that you no longer have to fuss with which type of cables you're using, as crossover and regular networking cables are automatically detected. Other advanced features include address learning and aging, as well as 802.3x flow control. Plus, head-of-line blocking prevention keeps your high-speed clients from bogging down in lower-speed traffic. Somers Amazon is NOT shipping the pictured item - they are shipping the EG005W-V3, which is not only a totally different form factor - it has fewer features (led indicates connection only). On the plus side, This one has no fan so is totally quiet - on the minus side, the V3 version is cheaper and that lower price is NOT reflected here!! 16 of 18 people found the following review helpful. NOT THE ITEM PICTURED By Dwayne E. Robinson I specifically ordered the product because the form factor met my requirements. It is NOT acceptable to substitute a different product without notifying the buyer first. 19 of 24 people found the following review helpful. Far Too Loud for home use By Robert G. Perfect for corporate environments By Steve Eagle I don't understand why people purchase enterprise level devices like this access point for their homes or apartments and complain when it doesn't work out of the box. This 1131AG is meant to be used in a networked environment, specifically in combination with a WLAN controller. When the WLAN controller is configured properly, this 1131AG will auto-configure itself as soon as it is given ethernet and broadcast all SSID's on the controller. (Note that the automatic behavior is unique to this Lightweight model, AIR-LAP1131AG - be careful when ordering.) The range on this unit is superb, and like most Cisco products, it is extremely reliable and durable. It comes with a variety of mounting plates, a bag of machine screws, power adapter (though PoE is preferred due to the size of the brick) and a user guide. I would have liked if they included wood or drywall screws because 99% of the time I am installing these on walls, but that is a small complaint. Overall this is one of the better WAP's out there for the small to medium sized business. Together with a WLAN controller like the Cisco 2106 you will enjoy a very robust and reliable WiFi network. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This is not a stand alone device! By Scrubs Make sure this is the one you want! I accidentally purchased this when I was looking for the stand alone AP. Notice the difference in the model number(AIR-LAP1131AG-A-K9). This means it's the LAP version, which requires a controller device and doesn't work as stand alone. I was able however to configure it for being a stand alone AP using the other reviews from reviewers who also got the wrong one. With that being said, it's Cisco, so once I did get it working correctly I haven't touched it since. 0 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Good Product Not A Consumer-Friendly Setup By M. Gutkowski I purchased it for residential use. Clearly a good product, however, you'll need a networking specialist to set this up. The product did not include any instructions on how to configure. Quite complicated configuration for the average residential use. See all 3 customer reviews...

By Hendrik Fink Fast shipping merchant was great, only real issues was the poor documentation on Engenius' part.. but got it configured and now it is working even better than expted with one antenna picking up a far away WAN and the other serving as a local wireless network going to the WAN. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent outdoor AP for the money By taconinja I bought two of these for a 1/3 mile distance between two office buildings network access, and after 9 months, they have not given me any problems. The addition of the second radio with 802.11n access was a nice bonus as it saved me from having to configure wifi for both offices. These have been running outdoors in weather ranging from 0F to over 100F in this time period, mounted on a pole. the only thing missing from these that I'd like is the ability to run 802.11n on 5GHz, but it's a minor complaint, as the 802.11a on the radio with external connections is perfect for a virtually no interference way to connect two distant points without relying on a much slower VPN connection. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. One day it worked very nicely and I could connect to my wireless G network but after One and half day it dropped the connection and it did not connect to my network. It could not find many of the networks which it was seeing for a day and half. I tried to reload the driver, tried to find the updates for driver but nothing helped. Finally I returned it. The Linksys 12 Volt Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit lets you put your access points almost anywhere, by removing the requirement of nearby power outlets. By using the existing Category 5 Ethernet cabling to deliver power to many standard 12 volt access points and other network devices, you save the time, hassle, and expense of running AC power to the access point's installation location. The best position for a wireless access point is usually on the ceiling, in the center of the area to be covered. Second best would be high on a nearby wall. Unfortunately, there's usually no easily accessible AC power plugs available in these locations. With the Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit, installing the access point in these preferred spots becomes far less trouble. The 12 Volt Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit is a two piece set. The "Injector" sends both power and data over one Category 5 cable to your access point, wireless router or bridge. Then the tiny "Splitter", placed at the remote location, separates the network data and DC power back into two cables, and delivers them to the access point. The Injector can also be used by itself with POE-enabled network devices that accept 48 volts directly on a POE port. When it's time to expand your wireless network, let the Linksys 12 Volt Power Over Ethernet Adapter Kit simplify your installation.

Watch Out! - Great, but must manually configure 10/100/1000 router port to 10/100; fails on unmanaged 10/100/1000 switches By J. C. Perry Great device, works fine, just have to manually configure 10/100/1000 ports to 10/100 to make it work. I bought this unit and struggled for weeks to get it to work right ... turns out, the injector or source device gets confused if you connect it to an auto-sensing Gigabit device (I tried both a Linksys RVS4000 10/100/1000 router, and a Linksys 10/100/1000 autosensing/unmanaged switch). If you connect it to a 10/100 device, or if you manually set its port on a 10/100/1000 device/router to be restricted to 10/100 speed, it works fine - but it won't work with a 10/100/1000 unmanaged switch at all (at least not the Linksys model switch I use). It seems the 10/100/1000 switch is unable to detect that the WAPPOE12 can only operate at 10/100, so it assumes 1000, and fails. Hopefully this is something Linksys could fix in future hardware revisions of either their switches/routers, or the injectors - to add "graceful 10/100/1000 speed negotiation" -- but currently it's an undocumented "gotcha" - just make sure you can manually set the source port to 10/100, and it will work fine. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Perfect for WAP devices By Jeff ten Bosch I used this to allow me to place my wireless access point in a location that does not currently have a local power source. Suffice it to say, this product is a cheaper investment then hiring an electrician. As noted in the cons, you may want to limit the use of this to 10/100 speed products. This may not be the best solution for your router/gateways. It's very easy to install and works perfect. I like the fact that it came with it's own power supply. It also came with a cat 5e cable. Now for the pros and cons... Pros ============ - Easy to install - Perfect compliment to wireless access points - Very inexpensive option, when compared to installing a new outlet Cons ============ - It's heavy and more bulky then I expected. It seems unusual for just sending a DC current - I wish it didn't have the 'built-in' cat 5 whips. I would have preferred that they supply the whips, with an option to use something else. It's mostly an issue on the switch side. I have this dongle hanging from the switch and it wants to pull the switch off the table. No issue if your switch is somehow mounted - It appears to be only compatible with Linksys products. Not that big of an issue, but if I wanted to use a different brand access point, this goes out the window - Appears to only transmit at 10/100. So if you have a 802.11 N AP, you may not be able to take advantage of the full speed. Although my cons list is larger then the pros, I would still recommend this product for anyone that would like to move their WAP to a remote location. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Works perfectly By G. Boravich Very easy to install. Works perfectly over sixty feet of CAT-5 Ethernet to WRT54G router. Would not hesitate to purchase again if needed. See all 8 customer reviews...

Cisco SLM2008 8-port Gigabit Smart Switch - PD/AC power

Cisco® Small Business Smart Switches deliver cost-effective switching solutions that are ideal for small businesses or workgroups within larger organizations. These high-speed switches offer entry-level management without the cost and complexity of a full Layer 2 managed switch. The Cisco SLM2008 8-Port Gigabit Smart Switch is ideal for conference rooms, labs, shipping/receiving departments or in marketing, design, or audio/visual workgroups. The eight 10/100/1000-Mbps (Gigabit Ethernet) ports enable companies to link to other Gigabit devices on the network (servers, workstations, and network storage) to quickly move bandwidth-intensive files while still supporting 10/100-Mbps clients. The Cisco SLM2008 supports the IEEE 802.3af standard for Power over Ethernet (PoE) for obtaining its power over a designated powered device (PD) switch port or from an external AC power adapter. This gives companies the option to install the switch in places where a power outlet may not be present, such as in ceilings and walls. The Cisco SLM2008 is able to secure the network through IEEE 802.1Q VLANs and IEEE 802.1X port authentication. For environments where IP multicast applications are used, the switch is capable of limiting the traffic to only the ports that have requested that traffic, with support of Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) snooping. Additional quality-of-service (QoS) capabilities, such as IEEE 802.1p, differentiated services code point (DSCP), and four hardware queues, make it possible to maintain good quality for real-time applications such as voice and video. The Cisco SLM2008 offers an easy-to-use browser interface for managing and configuring the features, making it ideal for small businesses without an IT staff or that have minimal technical expertise.

Mehta I bought this switch to replace a failing 10/100 switch at home. So far, it's been a great product (in use for just about a month) though I haven't yet had a need to use the QOS or MAC restrictive features. But it's a fantastic gigabit switch! UPDATE 11-12-2008: My switch failed just over a year later. At first, my computer's network card kept getting disconnected and I'd have to reboot the switch. After a while, it stopped letting my pc connect at all. I rerouted my network cable from the pc to another switch and it hasn't gotten disconnected since. I think the other reviewers may be right that it eventually overheated and failed. Going to contact Linksys for a replacement. UPDATE 01-18-2009: I did contact Linksys on getting this item replaced. After the usual round of explaining the problem to tech support and having them make me try everything I had already tried again, they authorized an RMA. The RMA process took about 2-2.5 weeks. I did the basic RMA where I shipped the defective product to them, they get it, test it, and send a replacement if broken, instead of cross-shipping or having them charge me for a replacement until they receive the defective unit. When I received the replacement, I put it back in place on my network and so far so good. I think it's a good product, but now I'll have to see if this one fails around the same timeframe or not. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. 2 units failed due to overheating By Eric Cables I purchased 4 of these for use as "loaner" switches at the company I work for. I have had two of them fail from overheating after 2-4 months of use, they just stop working, and were extremely hot to the touch. Definitely looks like a design problem, and I would highly discourage anyone from purchasing one of these. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. These fail repeatedly. Linksys not helpful after several replacements. By G. Cook We purchased over a dozen of these for use as desktop switches at our company. Both the SLM2005 and SLM2008 models. They all begin to fail at approximately the same time and within a week all are dead. At first Linksys was happy to replace them. However, after about the fourth round of replacements, they are now giving us the run-around and asking for more details about the failures before they can be replaced. My response, "They just don't work!" Seriously. You can no longer reach them on the assigned or default IP address, nothing connects on any of the ports. It matters not whether they are powered by AC or PoE. Steer clear of these doorstops. See all 15 customer reviews...

Henckel I just bought one of these for the AP side of a 3 mile wireless bridge (house to house) using 19 dbi directional panels. When I was finally able to get it configured it works super! I am using WPA2-PSK, which was easy to configure. However, the thing that really screwed me up was the Bullet M2 "AirMax" option is ENABLED by default -- and this makes the device INCOMPATIBLE with all other devices (Can you say stupid default?) Also the 40 MHz option is incompatible with most devices. Also I tried to configure the LAN-side of the M2 to use DHCP to get its IP, but that feature appears to be broken! I kept getting "Host unreachable" errors until I changed the M2 LAN IP to Static. Also it appears to be impossible to change the PASSWORD on this device. Fortunately you can change the userid to something obscure. Jeez, I think ubiquiti should do a bit more usability testing. I only recommend this device if you are a geek and you have a LOT of patience. 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great add on for the WifiRanger for use in an RV By BigV I purchased this for use in a Motorhome connected to a WifiRanger Pro. The Ranger has a plug for their own version called the WFRBoost. The Bullet2-HP is higher powered and with a proper antenna can reach an access point MILES away. One caveat is that it is too powerful for close in connections. Dialing down the power settings does not really seem to help. If you try to use it to connect to an access point too close you will over power the access point and not only will it not connect but can cause interference with anyone else trying to connect. I mounted mine to an 8db omni directional antenna. That in turn was mounted to a telescoping flag pole with a mount that slides in the receiver hitch. That setup allowed me to connect to a public hotspot at a Marina while camped a couple of miles away on the beach. For a primary use in campgrounds and RV parks I would recommend the lower powered bullet2 and a 3db antenna. I dropped a star because to a novice it can be somewhat intimidating. The interface is intuitive if you have a networking background or are using something like the Ranger. A beginner will be very confused as to how to set one up. 1 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Documentation Incomplete, VPN worthless, Router Crashes for Bit Torrent or FTP By Kevin Mazzone I'd give this router 0 stars if I can. I'm a consultant and bought it for a client needing VPN access. I'm trying to setup a VPN and the documentation is non-existent. I have the router hooked up at home connected to a wireless AP. Every time a client machine uses Bit Torrent or FTP, the router crashes. How could Linksys release such a mess? 4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. FTP ACCESS TIMES OUT - SERIOUS ISSUES! By Gregory J. Kane Please be sure to check out the linksys community forums before purchasing this router. If you plan on transferring files via FTP, this is not the product for you. Furthermore, by looking at the forums, it looks like Linksys is either ignoring the problem or simply does not care!!! A very solid router but certainly not for amateur By A power home user As a home user, after upgrading my broadband to 6.0mb/s from Comcast, both my netgear and linksys routers were overwhelmed and couldn't cope up with all the activities for the 5 computers, Xbox360 and Slingbox in the house. After researching all the business class routers, including Netgear, Linksys, Sonicwall and others. Finally, I've decided that Cisco is the best product that would solve my problem. Knowing that this is a sophiscated product, I ordered the most basic router without wireless access (hence less variables to configure). Amazon has the best price among all the websites though you certainly don't get any type of technical support from them. As expected, the router requires some professional knowledge to configure. Being a home user, I only changed very few settings through the SDM software that came with the router and it worked very well within my network. The performance of the router is impressive and I am getting the same download speed if I connect my PC directly to the modem. With all the loaded activities in the house, the CPU usage was just around 40%. This router certainly is of professional quality and doesn't even warm up after leaving it on all the time. On the flip side, I found that the user interface (SDM) to manage the router is a little over complicated. It could be much more simplier but is still acceptable. The command line interface through the console port is definitely for professional who knows exactly what they are doing. Through the command interface, you can get almost all status and configuration from the router. I dare not to modify any configuration using the console interface because I'm not sure what I'll be changing. In addition, this router is 4 times more expensive than the ones you can get from local retail stores. Overall, I would recommend this router if you need the quality and performance. Otherwise, stay with the consumer products from Linksys or Netgear. 22 of 22 people found the following review helpful. The most reliable part of my network By Albert K. Lee I am a software engineer who sometimes thinks he's a network engineer too. I run one commercial and one private system from home, with DNS, web, and e-mail service for each, and have a commercial broadband connection through Verizon Online DSL with 5 static IP addresses. After spending days reading specs and reviews of various pro-consumer routers, SOHO routers, and enterprise routers, and after having experienced downright horrible router software and performance from home/consumer routers, I decided on going with a Big Name and it's been a WONDERFUL investment. I am comfortable working on all kinds of UNIX systems, so I am very comfortable with setting things up using a command line through telnet and ssh or by transferring files with scp. This router uses standard Cisco IOS software and there was a real wealth of documentation available on the web, and I was able to get up and running without purchasing any additional books. Once everything was set up, it never needed to be touched, and the router has been chugging along with no hiccups and at full speed. What I had was: - a pool of 5 static WAN IP addresses from my ISP - an internal 192.168.x.x network - web/email/dns/ntp/etc. servers on the internal network - ethernet connections for everything (I have a separate DSL modem) I wanted a router that: - was straightforward for a competent network engineer to configure - could implement NAT the way I wanted to - was totally silent (no fans!) - would not flake on me - had a firewall I got more than I wanted. This router also: - stores its identity/configuration in a single file, which I can archive - supports SNTP (only), so it gets its time from my local NTP servers - does a lot more than I need/use All in all, I am writing from the point of view of an advanced user,

Pickering Businesses have used security/surveillance cameras for many years, to identify people in certain areas of the building, to watch for suspicious activity, or to catch people in the act of doing evil deeds. However, as technology has improved and prices have dropped, these cameras have now become popular additions to home security systems as well. While many people still choose Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and recorders, mostly due to their low cost, the added flexibility of network cameras (otherwise known as IP cameras or Internet cameras) is starting to greatly influence homeowners. Network cameras allow easy installation and integration with your wired or wireless home network. While CCTV cameras require a standalone monitor to view the images, network cameras can be controlled and viewed from any computer on your home network, and can also be viewed from outside your network with computers, cell phones and PDAs that have an active Internet connection. But choosing a good network camera that meets your needs can be a bit tricky, as most of the network cameras currently on the market are either low end (relatively inexpensive) or high end (extremely expensive); with very few choices that fall in between. If you're looking for a network camera that you can control pan, tilt, and zoom, it can be very difficult to find a quality device that is affordable. Well Panasonic recognized the strong need for a mid-level network camera, which would offer features that are usually only available on high priced models. They answered this consumer need with the Panasonic BB-HCM527A PoE ceiling mount, dome network camera; complete with motorized pan, tilt and zoom features. Setting up a home computer network and adding IP cameras to this network requires a bit of technical aptitude, so you may wish to call upon the help of someone with a computer technical background if you are not very tech-savvy. This review is for the BB-HCM527A network camera, so I am going to concentrate on the camera itself and not include a long dissertation about home networking in general. The Panasonic BB-HCM527A network camera is NOT a Wi-Fi device, so you need to make sure you are able to run a CAT5, CAT5e or CAT6 cable from your network router, switch or hub to where your camera will be mounted. This model is also a PoE (Power over Ethernet) device, so you will want to make sure your network has a PoE switch, or you will need to purchase a separate PoE injector. Although PoE technology is becoming more popular in business environments, most home networks do not yet utilize this new and somewhat expensive technology. However, the advantage of PoE is that your power travels over the same Ethernet cable as your data; meaning that you do not have to have a power outlet right next to where you plan to mount your camera. I do not have a PoE network in my home, so I purchased the PD-3001/AC 1PORT Poe Injector Ac Input 802.3AF and Cisco Supported, made by PowerDsine. This allowed me to run a cable from my network switch to the injector, which plugs into a wall AC outlet, and then run another cable from the injector to the network camera itself. You now have your power and data connections all in one wire. This remarkable device is a feature rich network camera, with nearly all of the bells and whistles you could want. It is able to pan from -175 to +175 degrees, giving a total sweep of roughly 350 degrees. Mounting the camera to the ceiling is a fairly straightforward process, utilizing the easy to follow instructions and mounting hardware, which is all included in the camera kit. It has a tilt angle adjustment from 0 degrees (straight down) to +82 degrees. The zoom capabilities of this camera are not quite as impressive; offering only a 4.6x zoom (2.3x optical, 2x digital). Still, for most home or small

Working Fine By Cheery Onez I spent a lot of time trying to find a good solution for an outdoor wifi antenna/router. This seems to be the most affordable and easy solution available. I currently have this unit installed indoors as a client bridge. Once I receive the mounting pole that I ordered separately (Winegard) I'll mount it outside. For the time being, I have the unit aimed through a window. It seems that the Low-e glass in my windows has a metallic film that is causing much of the interference with my wifi signal. As soon as I open the window, the signal strength increases by almost double. So once I get this unit mounted outside, I'll have a great connection. The setup was easy. The administration software that comes installed on the unit & accessed through my browser is easy to navigate and configure. In the past I have set up a client bridge using DD-WRT and I think the TP-Link configuration is easier. There are even nice tools to view live signal strength and data throughput statistics. It is powered through a small PoE device that comes included in the box. They have also included a short piece of cat-5 patch cable to run from the unit to the PoE device as well as a couple of plastic tie straps to mount the unit to a pole. All in all I think it is a wonderful value. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. quality product AND excellent support on setup By chuckles unit is everything that was promised. strong signal. waterproof. setup a little tricky but the tech support line was EXCELLENT, at first i had my doubts but the end result was superior. there are others out there for hundreds more but this little unit is a good bang for the buck See all 4 customer reviews...
