It took me a long time to figure it out since my LAN is fairly complex and contains several switches. However, I had 3ea of the Linksys SR20xx 8-port models die on me much faster. Fortunately, those were much easier to find since they just died completely when they went. So, I am not going to purchase any more of the Linksys SR20xx products. I hope that others are more fortunate, but I have had too many of them fail and am now trying D-Link switches. I used to really like Linksys and their hardware used to work forever (or so it seemed). 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. DO NOT BUY By amazon fan Upgraded from a stable but 10/100 D-Link switch for improved performance. The Linksys switch worked great for 6 months but when I came in to work this morning my network was down. I could not diagnose the problem so my IT guy had to come out and after a couple of hours (at $105/hr) found that 12 or the 16 ports were bad. Amazon WILL NOT HELP after 30 days and sent me to deal with Linksys directly. Unfortunately, only now do I see the bad reviews for this product (too late for me) but hopefully not for you. STAY AWAY. I'm sure Linksys will replace the switch since it's under warranty but I'm know the new one will fail in time as well. Wish I had never upgraded and really wish I had not bought this switch. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Good ... then bad By Savage I purchased the Linksys SR2016 16-port gigabit switch in Feb 2007 and it worked flawlessly through August 2008, when 12 of the 16 ports mysteriously died, taking down my network with it.Others have noted similar problems with this switch - good operation followed by failure - an odd recurring situation for hardware that should be stable for the long term. My past experiences with Linksys products were more favorable than this.I have rated the product 3 stars as an average: Absolutely no problem with set-up or performance for 18 months (5 stars), followed by massive failure (0 stars). This said, I plan to order another SR2016 to replace this one with hopes that my positive experience (of it working well) is not followed by the negative experience of failure I faced with my first purchase of this switch.* * *An addendum: I expected that after 18 months, this switch was out of warranty but called Linksys just to check. Turns out it was under warranty and they are sending me a new replacement .... so customer service gets an A+. The switch should not have failed but the company did stand by its product. The competition is much more expensive. The down side is that setup is a PITA if you are not a network administrator. Once setup though, the units work great. There is very little latency added (ping time round trip). EnGenius ships with quite nice mounting hardware and POE adapter. You will also need some electricians tape to seal the RJ45 connection (unless you can attach your own RJ45 connector; the supplied gasket ASM isn't large enough to let the RJ45 through) and possibly a null modem DB9 cable assembly if you do like I did, and set the EnGenius in a mode where it won't talk to you anymore. EnGenius is running Linux under the covers, with the null modem cable you can reset to default using a 2nd PC. My application is an interbuilding wireless link, LOS 350M (about 1100'), where it was not practical to run a wire for broadband access. The first units installed were the internal antenna 3220, which are still in production use working reliably in all weather conditions-- rain, snow, fog. Downtime is not an option as the broadband is work related. EnGenius could help themselves a lot by having three or four "standard" setups shown on their web site (BTW, I recommend reading the EnGenius website FAQ). I ended up using the one configuration they listed although that is not ideal for my application-- mostly because I ran out of time to try to get the ideal setup working. In the setup used, the bridge end can't work with a router, only a switch, which is acceptable and certainly better than only 1 PC at the far end [the setup is DSL router, NetGear local AP/router, EnGenius 3220 set up as AP+WDS, EnGenius 3220 set up as bridge, NetGear FS105 switch. The ideal setup would have a router not a switch at the far end to support the 4 PCs there.]. The 3220 is pretty darn sensitive too. I can weakly detect (9DBi antenna) several unprotected APs in the distance through substantial tree interference-- I'm sure the AP owners "think" they are invisible because their laptops can't connect to their AP, well that is not the case and they should use WEP or WPA with SSID suppressed. The 3220 can also detect the head end AP buried inside a house (the NetGear AP/router feeding the 3220 at the head end). In some applications you may not need two 3220s to operate, just one, if the source low cost consumer AP can be placed in a window or other spot that provides a decent signal-- the weaker signal though translates to a higher error rate and slower overall communications (the communications is slower due to retrying when a packet is lost or mangled), there isn't any free lunch! There isn't much competition at at the EnGenius 3220 price point. The units work reliably in all weather conditions and have a nice collection of mounting hardware and POE adapter. The EnGenius 3220 is an excellent solution to linking points if the alternatives are impractical or simply more expensive. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The best choice and very powerful for the price By Ali Alkhalas Hi I worked with this device for long time it's Really attractive performance and features. I live in Saudi Arabia and they are subjected to everything from 30 degrees to 55 °C degrees. Pros and Cons: Pros: 1.Ease of Installation. 2.The units are very watertight and weatherproof. 3.Appearance-wise, the units are architecturally unobtrusive. 4.Impressive range. 5.They are inexpensive, reliable and fast. 6.Power over ethernet capable. 7.Web interface. 8. Mounting hardware included. Cons: 1.Short lifetime. 2.Reset to factory default is too difficult (You need cable (requires RS-232 null modem) and COM port - most laptop has not this legacy connection- and using telnet ) 3. Poor manual. 4. No online forum. Important advice: Do not set the power to the 'Extreme' setting for long periods of

The first one I bought starting have trouble with the port on it. Ports would just go dead and I'd have to switch the cable at that port to another open port. I called support serveral times and spoke with different technicians, but no one could get the switch to work correctly on those dead ports. They were supposed to email me RMA instructions, which I never got. I called multiple times to get the RMA instructions, but each time I called they wanted diag my switch again! Needless to say, I ended up buying a second one, which has been working. I still have never gotten LinkSys to give me an RMA on the first. So it's sitting in its box - big waste of money. The reason I gave this product a 4 star is because it works when it works. My only real gripe was the support. In the future I'll probably be looking somewhere else for a switch. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent mounting options By Ecclaim First off, I got this product for just $85, which I thought was a steal for a 24 port switch, even if it is only 10/100. Even at $100 it still is a better deal than most 8 port switches. Worked first try, no configuration. But the best part, in my opinion, is the mounting flexibility. It comes with some stick on feet if you just want to set it on a shelf, and it comes with 2 L-shaped brackets for rack mounting, but you can also turn the L brackets 90 degrees so instead of sticking out from the front for rack mounting they stick out with the flat side flush with the bottom. I didn't have a rack, but I turned it on the side and used those two tabs to mount it to the wall. Much easier than trying to use hidden, slotted holes. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Works Great By Davis Item arrived on time, and in good condition. Proxim AE 802.3AF 6 PORT DC INJECTOR ( 4306-US )

DETAILS: Active Ethernet eliminates the need for power blisters (ac-to-dc converters) and 110/220 V AC cabling installation. With Active Ethernet, system installers need to run only a single Ethernet cable instead of separate power and data cables to each Access Point base station. The Active Ethernet solution consists of a power injector, typically installed in the wiring closet, that injects the DC power onto the Ethernet cable. The Active Ethernet unit constantly checks the Ethernet cable for a device that can handle PoE. If it does not detect such a device, Active Ethernet switches off power for that port. This power-monitoring capability protects other devices connected to the Ethernet cable with power as well as the input port of the switch in case of an installation error. Not "meant to be plugged in all day" By Ask Bjørn Hansen Netgear is supposed to have a 5 year warranty (2 on the power supply). I had one of these for about 18 months. Over the last months it's been increasingly flaky, every week or two it just hangs and needs to be unplugged and started again. It doesn't matter how much it's in use (it's done it when we've been on vacation with minimal network traffic). I called Netgear to get it replaced, but they told me that it's not meant to be plugged in all day, so they won't fix it. Unless you actually unplug all your network equipement when you are not actively using it (I didn't think so), then I highly recommend avoiding Netgear products. 31 of 35 people found the following review helpful. 7 months old paper weight By George W. Carrillo Im with Bjorn, after 2 weeks of use i noticed that i had to unplug the thing after 72hrs of use. Now after 7 months i have 8 dead ports. I have always trusted Netgear, but the last 3 items i have bought from them have failed in less than a year. I don't mind tossing paper cups, i don't expect them to last very long, but swithches and routers, i expect to at least get 3 years out of them. 15 of 18 people found the following review helpful. An economical GB switch By Ernie Gubbels Right from the start, it could not be easier! If you are looking for an economical 16-Port GB switch the GS116 is an excellent choice. Simply plug it in and it works! I have installed the switch down stream from my 4-port cable router. The auto-sensing port configuration works as advertised. No problems intermixing 10,100,1000 devices. Further, the automatic uplink to the router was completely seamless without the need for a turn-over cable. Again, if you are looking for a dumb 16-port GB switch, I highly recommend this one. See all 27 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing in multiple aspects. By Timothy E. Little I purchased a pair of the EnGenius EOC-2610's in order to wirelessly connect two buildings on our farm separated by 500 meters so both buildings could use the the same DSL access to the internet. The first unit installed easily as a workable "access point" to the LAN containing the DSL/router despite very poor documentation of how to do it and no schematics. This worked for two days and then the devices's electronics failed before I even had a chance to set up the 2nd unit of the pair for a stronger signal in the second building. I ended up replacing the first unit with the second as a simple "access point" in the main building so at least I could communicate with the second building's wireless enabled laptop. I sent a detailed concise email to EnGenius explaining my troubles in simple non-accusatory language. They never responded. The device could not be returned to the vendor without the approval of Engenius so I never was able to get my money back before the 30 day grace period expired. In summary my device failure rate was 50% in the first two days of operation, the instructions for a motivated non-network engineer are inadequate, and the support was nonexistent. I myself would not buy from EnGenius again. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. EnGenius EOC-2610 is a poor product By Sandra L. Hollis In November, 2009, I purchased the EnGenius EOC-2610. By March, 2010, the device stopped working. The device would receive power, but I could not access the device. The cables and settings were tested and found to be in working order. I spoke to an Engenius technician and sent the device in for repair. Engenius indicated that the LAN port went bad on the EOC-2610 device and they had to replace it. Engenius did repair the device at no cost to me except for shipping the device to them for repair. By May, 2011, the device broke again same circumstance as before. I contacted Engenius and they indicated that since the device was out of warranty the only thing I could do is purchase a new device which they would give me $20 discount. Thanks you very much EnGenius. Please note: During the period from March 2010 to April 2011, I had used the device very little and the device was packed away carefully in storage. When I started using it again in April, 2011 it worked great until about June, 2011 when it broke again. I explained to Engenius I would never buy an their product again for the following reasons: 1) I didn't have the device 6 months before it initially broke, 2) when it broke, Engenius should have paid all costs associated with their defective product, and 3) the repaired device lasted a bit over a year before it broke again and that's even without much use during that time, 4) this wifi product should last longer without breaking down at all. I was very disappointed with Engenius and their product and would not recommend this product to anyone interested in a wifi system. Sandra L. Hollis Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. not for novice networkers By Ruth Smith The instructions for this product are VERY vague to say the least and have discrepancies between the written instructions and the PDF file on the CD that comes with it! You won't get any decent help from the Techs of Engenius because they are just as vague as the instructions and treat you like an idiot. I have had this product since Christmas and it is still NOT UP AND RUNNING. I bought 2 of them in hopes to build a wireless network. I am out $150 if I can't find help from the Techs at Engenius otherwise I guess I can consider myself screwed! I have had schooling for networking so I am not stupid! But this product is incredibly hard to figure out the correct settings unless you can read between the lines. GOOD LUCK if you buy this is all I have to say! See all 16

Most helpful customer reviews 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great for testing By W. Daniel This is a good, small, inexpensive 10/100 Ethernet switch with port mirroring to allow Ethernet captures of live traffic. You'd need an old Ethernet Hub or a big switch with port mirroring to capture live traffic on an Ethernet. It works great with Wireshark and a laptop since it is USB bus powered. This was exactly what I was looking for. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Tool By L. Fong Use this for setting up and troubleshooting networked equipment. It has a fan too and they haven't taken any lessons from Steve Jobs about making the fan quiet so it better be in an enclosed, insulated space if you are putting this in your home or small office. Other than that it is great and a real performer (switches at wire speed) p.s. I wish I could change my vote to 2 stars. Although they answered the support line quickly, I was told that the noise of this product is as designed and it really isn't intended for a small office, but rather should live in an already noisy data center where it can just add to the din. I am going to return mine and find another brand that actually wants it's equipment to be used in a small office. Sigh... 16 of 18 people found the following review helpful. NOISY - VERY Noisy By Plain Mike I placed this switch in an isolated central wiring closet that has other network equipment, some with fans and disk drives. There has never been any sound audible outside the wiring closet. This switch sounds like a vacuum cleaner, and is clearly audible and objectionable in every room that abuts the closet. The switch seems to function OK but the noise is so loud that I regret the purchase. Unless you can mount this switch were noise is already very loud, or where noise will not bother anyone, I'd recommend you look elsewhere. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Don't Buy It By T. Wells I bought this switch about 18 months ago. It went out 6 months ago. They have a lifetime warranty, and they replaced it. However, the one they replaced it with had something rattling around inside it when I got it. I sent it back and got another. Then, it failed. They would not cross ship a new one to me. In other words, they wanted me to disconnect the existing switch, send it back to them, and have them ship the new one to me 5-7 days later. So what do I do for work for the week and a half while I wait for the new one? They said they would expedite and cross ship if I paid a charge of $74.99! I asked them how I was supposed to work for a week and a half while I waited. The tech said, "Well, you could buy another switch in the meantime." What?!? I replied, "Yes, maybe I'll buy a switch that doesn't break down every 6 months!" Don't buy it! See all 9 customer reviews...

Thumbs up on Nanostation M2's By Novasystems Experiences certainly vary, but I place a fair amount of wireless and unless there is a huge amount of 2.4Ghz interference, have had no problems. Again, I can't speak for every installation but that's what experience is about. It's good to know what's on the air on what channel and pointed where at what strength. One customer uses 2 for a bridge covering 300' line of sight with POE injectors...and gets 150Mbps throughput, which is fantastic. I have other Ubiquiti products spanning 1.5 km from a mountain ridge to a house in a vineyard, likewise, great throughput and no problems. The Airmax software is key to successful installation. Also are installing them in Fiji for residential and resort use to bridge. Solid product. 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Not a 'magic' solution if you live in a dense area it probably won't work more than 100'. Product not for the inexperienced. By Dane A. Kantner I have quite a bit of networking experience but found getting these to work as advertised to be a real challenge. If you're not familiar with every advanced option in your existing router I wouldn't dive into this solution. I opted for this over a 5ghz solution because the 5ghz solutions pretty much require line of site, whereas 2.4 doesn't necessarily. I had a project where I was trying to see if I could repeat a wireless signal into a nearby facility that was a few hundred feet away, not perfectly line of site though. It didn't work even 200' away with line of site. I also tried another angle of projecting the signal out to a huge park and seeing if I could pick it up just outside there, I couldn't. Secondary to that, long term, I wanted to then put them on my roof deck to extend my in-house wireless signal which otherwise doesn't reach my roof deck. They advertise a 15 KM range but I would have to think this would be in an extremely rural environment where there's no other wireless interference. In an urban environment you're not going to find this to be a magic solution. You can't undo physics of radio wave interference. I had a challenge getting anything to even see these devices more than 100' away. Also, it's not overly well documented (and definitely not in the basic 'how to' info), but if you're wanting a regular Wifi client to connect to these (such as a Windows or Mac system), you need to disable all of the AirMax features (2x2 MIMO) so at that point you're just using standard wireless technology. I was hoping they could hybridize and use the 2x2 technology for the communications between the Ubiquiti products and non-Airmax for the non, but it can't. Also, I was hoping to repeat an existing access point directly. You can't do this, instead you have to buy 2 Ubiquiti products minimum to have one signal repeated. This was a bit undocumented as well, and frankly I don't think I would've bought this product just based off of knowing that alone. I wanted 2 access points on my roof, and instead I had to use one in my house at my existing router just to send the signal to the other access point on the roof. In the end, though, after about 10 months of back and forth, I got the product working for what I want. Even so, though, once I got the two connected it required a significant amount of tweaking. My roof deck's access point is probably 20' through walls above my other access point, but the connection was initially extremely slow (90 kbps~). After tweaking the output power i was find a happy medium where it was both reliable and still capable of reaching decent medium-end broadband speeds (~4-5 MBPS). Initially having the access point in my downstairs was a drawback but now I've been using this in house as well, as the wireless signal from this is present throughout my entire apartment whereas the other is not. Another caveat is wireless security. In their documentation they tell you best

Durk My husband has a computer business and has purchased 5 of these devices for various customers. Each and every one of them have failed. Three of them within the 3 months Netgear will provide free support for and two of them after 1 year. When they work they don't work so well, a lot of disconnects, and network not found. Working with support stated that too many wireless networks in a congested area will cause this. Understandable, but hardware failures are not understandable. Out of the five of them, Netgear has replaced the three that failed withing the 90 period and they have been taken out of service since then. There were too many network disconnects to be useful. When they fail the power light comes on, but nothing else. No network light when the cat5 cable is plugged into it, nor does the wireless work on the device either. My husband made the mistake of purchasing them when they were fairly new and paid over 170.00 per. What a mistake. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS AS IT IS JUNK. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Very unreliable unit. By Treb Orf When the WN802T works, its great. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work very often. My first one died completely when about 6 months old. This was replaced by Netgear under warrenty, then the replacement died another 3 months later. That was replaced also under warrently, and the third one is now started to act-up, disconnecting and needing resets for no reason. If you search the NetGear support forums there are a number of folk reporting similar experiences - seems like there is a basic design issue with the WN802T. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Mine failed also By Earl J. Mcgehee Mine worked fine for about 5 months then failed suddenly. I have not sent it back yet - probably will not bother based on the number of people reporting failures. Most helpful customer reviews 5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Highly fuctional, very competitively priced By Mark McGinty If you are considering an investment into a long-distance WiFi network link, do yourself a huge favor: build it with Ubiquity radios. It's not just that they work well -- they definitely do, it's also their full-featured on-board configuration/diagnostic facility, and even more, the extensive documentation Ubiquity has provided. The entire industry could/should take a lesson from Ubiquity: the quality of tech product support we have all come to expect is abysmal; Ubiquity does it right! If I were making a Mastercard ad, it would go like this: ---- Trite, informationless, one-line descriptions, written by someone for whom English was not a first language: included in cost of ordinary hardware. Rich, descriptive paragraphs, complete with pros, cons and use-case scenarios for each option and setting, as provided by Ubiquity: priceless! ---- And a competitive price point seals the deal. The fact that Bullet2HP does not include a built-in antenna is, in practice, an asset -- too often built-in antennas are a woefully inadequate, and thus, a waste. (From my experience, a $20 12 dBi panel antenna runs rings around a competitor's built-in 10 dBi.) Choosing the right antenna for your application gives you a much better value. I wish I had started out with Bullet2HP's when my current project began, it would've saved me immeasurable time and considerable expense. That project, for those who might be interested, connects a rural area to a broadband connection 3 miles away, and makes it WiFi-available to those within a half-mile radius. Bullet2HP brings the Internet to the mountains! See all 1 customer reviews...

I bought it because a friend at work was using it and he is very happy with it. I personally wanted a device capable of being a wireless repeater and the firmware that came with this device does not allow that functionality. After spending another $20 to buy dd-wrt firmware and put on this device, it is serving it's purpose, however, there are other devices that do this for half the price. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Awesome product By Venky I have been using this outdoor for about one year with no problems. These are very sturdy units and better than the other products form Engenius. Will buy this again any time and highly recommended. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Engenius EOA3630 Wireless Access Point By Thomas T. Baldwin This outdoor Access Point has worked well. Poured rain last week with no effect on coverage. The browser based set up and options are well thought out and complete. Even lets you set what output level you want the radio to broadcast. I would buy it again. See all 7 customer reviews...

By Rick Spiegel Signifiant changes have occurred over the life of this switch. Version 1 had an internal fan and was quite noisy, albeit cool running. Version 2 & 2.1 eliminated the fan. However capacitor C251, sitting next to an internal heatsink is prone to failure after 6 - 8 months, resulting in dropped packets and link connections. Version 3.0 has solved this problem with a complete re-layout of the printed circuit board (PCB), with a redesign of the power/voltage regulation. The new version, still fanless, runs MUCH cooler than version 2.1. 16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Version 2.1 is silent, but dead gigabit By Robinson A. Nunez Vargas Bought this switch and received the 2.1 version which is black. It is fanless or at least if it does have fans I don't hear them. Tested it and performance is good getting almost 1Gbit under all conditions (hard disks and other hardware being the limiting factor). Also tested it with jumbo frames and worked OK. Overall good buy, great speed with jumbo frame support at a nice price. Edit: After almost a year, now the swith will no longer negotiate gigabit and only works OK at 100Mbit. This seems to be a widespread problem with version 2.1. And Linksys seems to be slow replacing or repairing these units under their lifetime warranty. Would suggest getting another switch. 16 of 18 people found the following review helpful. Newer version is quiet and better. By Kia I have bought both the old version of the Linksys SD2008 about 2 years ago when first released and everyone is right - Loud, and unacceptable when sitting on a desk next to you. I am lucky that I built a server and placed it and all networking items in basement so it did not bother me. I did hear it when I went into basement thought. The fan started really getting loud about 3 months ago and it just died in the past week but switch is still going strong. I wanted to see it the Version 2.1 was any better than the 1.0 that I currently have. I have not switched over yet because I am waiting for other new parts but I did plug in new switch and well what do you know. TADA. No fan sounds. I dont think the newer version even have a fan in it. Its slightly better looking than original because front bezel is black instead of grey. I like that fact that the plugs are in the back compared to Netgears switches which plug into the front(which can make an unsightly mess with a lot of plugs) I have used Linksys products for many years now. With Cisco, they seem to get better every year. Give the newer 2.1 switch a try. You won't be dissappointed. See all 39 customer reviews...

Most helpful customer reviews 19 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Great for Telecommuters, a couple shortcomings By John E. Heyer Pros: * Very stable. Many home and even business grade Firewalls will occasionally start acting up and have to be rebooted, but the ASA is completely solid. * 8 port switch w/ 2 PoE ports is great for things like IP Phones and Wireless Access Points. * AnyConnect SSL VPN with 2 client licenses included is a great value. This lets me access my home network from work, despite them requiring a proxy server. * Supports Spanning Tree and Rapid Spanning Tree, allowing you to build redundant uplinks to STP compatible switches. * 256 MB RAM and 128 MB of flash is plenty of Memory for future software. * Tons of VPN options - Straight IPSec, DMVPN, L2TP, SSL, AnyConnect, etc. The IPSec VPN is support on the iPhone, so it's pretty cool to be able to access my home network from my phone. Cons: * High learning curve, especially if you don't have previous experience with Cisco PIX or routers. Even using the Java-based ASDM, it can take a few hours of training to find your way. Also, ASDM is not compatible with the latest version of Java (you'll get an 'unconnected sockets' message). * Only supports 1 internal VLAN with default license. This is fine for most setups, but disappointing since the Cisco routers will do at least 2 VLANs. It prevents, for example, having separate VLANs for voice and wireless, or creating a DMZ. * No built-in Wireless option. Check out the 870 or 1800 routers if this is important. Adding a Wireless AP is easy though, especially with the PoE ports. * No support for DHCP reservations. I like to configure Servers and Printers this way, and can't find any good reason Cisco wouldn't support it like they do on their routers and Layer 3 switches. Summary - A great value as a SOHO Firewall and VPN Appliance. The ASA 5505 is priced the same as the PIX 501 was, but adds 2 PoE ports and SSL VPN Capabilities. The biggest drawbacks I can see are the high learning curve, no built-in Wireless, and lack of DHCP reservations. Before purchasing, you'll probably want to take a look at the 870 series routers since they may be a better choice depending on your requirements. 13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. Great home or branch office firewall - with a learning curve By Eric R Torbenson I'm using this device in my home network, replacing a Linksys WRT54G. It's great, and packs the functionality of 3 expensive pieces of gear into one box (fully-functional switch, low-end router and VPN concentrator/firewall.) The best next-level comparison would be something like the Cisco 891 integrated services router, which is about triple the cost. I thought I'd write this to balance out some of the very negative reviews and clear up some confusion. PROS: - Single-box solution that's a big step up from the Linksys devices - 8 10/100 switchports, 2 with PoE in case you happen to have IP phones or switches that support that standard - Supports a subset of routing features that other IOS-based Cisco routers use - Tons of VPN options, allowing you to set up site-to-site or client-based connections to the network - Basic config out of the box is extremely simple, and the unit ships with a sinple NAT-and-DHCP style setup tailored for use with broadband providers - If you don't like the command line, Cisco ships a reasonably good Java-based GUI that also lets you pull statistics from the device - Excellent throughput, solid performance so far. New models ship with 512 MB of flash to accomodate the new firmware and GUI packages. CONS: - Unless you purchase or have access to a maintenance contract (SMARTnet) from Cisco, you're not entitled to software upgrades or warranty support. Once you buy this from a reseller, you'll get access to the Cisco support site to get what you need. Same goes for hardware -- 90-day warranty without a contract, so make sure you unbox it and burn it in right away to
